Engine Architecture

Understanding Deadlock Crosshairs (Source 2 Citadel Engine)

Valve's competitive hero shooter Deadlock combines third-person MOBA dynamics with high-velocity hitscan and projectile shooting. Having a personalized, high-contrast reticle is crucial for landing headshots, tracking erratic dashes, and confirming last-hits on soul orbs. Our Studio maps 1:1 to the native Source 2 citadel_crosshair_* variables, guaranteeing that what you preview in our 60 FPS canvas is pixel-for-pixel what appears on your monitor in-game.

Center Dot Precision

A subtle 2px to 4px center dot provides an unambiguous reference point for headshot alignment and distant spirit snipes without obstructing your vision of enemy movement.

High-Contrast Outlines

Deadlock maps feature heavy particle effects, fire spells, and occult lightning. Enabling dark 1px outlines ensures your reticle never washes out in intense teamfights.

Static Spread Advantage

Competitive players frequently lock their pip gap with static spread. It trains muscle memory by giving you a consistent crosshair size during high-stress maneuvers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Deadlock Reticle & Crosshair FAQ

How do I import a crosshair code into Valve Deadlock?▶

In the Deadlock main menu or while in a match, open Settings (hit Esc or click the gear icon) and navigate to Options > Reticle. Click the "Import" button in the upper-right corner of the reticle preview box, paste your code (e.g. DL.AQGw...), and click Confirm. Your custom reticle will update immediately.

What is the difference between static and dynamic crosshair spread?▶

By default, Deadlock expands your crosshair pips outward as weapon bloom increases while firing or moving. Enabling "Static Spread" (citadel_crosshair_pip_gap_static true) locks the pips at an exact fixed distance, ensuring your crosshair never changes size regardless of recoil or movement.

Can I use console commands instead of the DL share code?▶

Yes. Deadlock runs on Valve Source 2, which exposes extensive citadel_crosshair_* convars. You can copy the "Console CFG" string from our exporter and paste it directly into the developer console (press F7 or ~), or paste it into your custom autoexec.cfg file located in your game installation folder.

Why should I add outline borders to my crosshair in Deadlock?▶

Deadlock features diverse urban environments ranging from deep shadow alleys to blinding golden sunlight in Amber lanes. Black or high-contrast outline borders ensure your reticle remains crisp and legible against bright ability particles, spirit fire, and complex textured backgrounds.

What is the "Themed Hero Crosshair" setting?▶

The themed crosshair convar (citadel_crosshair_themed) activates the bespoke weapon HUD reticle designed by Valve for specific heroes (such as custom shotgun rings or sniper markers). When disabled, Deadlock applies your custom user crosshair across all combatants.
